Today, I want to share a little secret that’s been a recent game-changer in my wellness routine, Red Light Therapy. You may have heard me talking about it already on IG or on the podcast because I am seriously OBSESSED. Since splurging and treating myself to my own red light device for Christmas, I’ve been basking in its benefits every night, and let me tell you, the results have been nothing short of incredible! Well worth it!
Why Red Light Therapy?
Let’s break it down to the basics – red light therapy involves exposing your body to low levels of red or near-infrared light. Here are some key benefits:
1. Skin Rejuvenation:
– Red light stimulates collagen production, reducing wrinkles and promoting smoother, more youthful skin. Since I am not getting any younger I feel like this is a no brainer. Sit in front of a relaxing light and help my skin? Done!
2. Muscle Recovery/Pain Management:
– It aids in reducing inflammation, easing muscle soreness, and accelerating the recovery process after workouts. This was one of my biggest reasons for getting this device. Helping my hands, feet, and knees.
3. Improved Sleep:
– Exposure to red light in the evening can help regulate your circadian rhythm, leading to better sleep quality. Also studies show if you expose your eyes to morning light shortly after waking in the morning you sleep better that night. When I wake up for the gym it is dark so this is a quick way to get morning light when there isn’t any.
4. Joint Health:
– Red light therapy has shown promise in reducing pain and inflammation associated with joint conditions. Again… knees, ankles, hands, sign me up!
5. Enhanced Mood:
– It may have a positive impact on mood and energy levels, contributing to an overall sense of well-being.
My Red Light Journey
Now, let’s get personal. Since incorporating red light therapy into my nightly routine, I’ve witnessed remarkable changes in a short time. And speaking of short. You do not need a long time for this. The best amount of total time for this is about 10-16 minutes. A fast new routine but the glow-up is real! This was actually a bit confusing for me at first because I see a lot of influencers showing themselves sitting in front of them while working for a while but my functional medicine practitioner Andrea as well as one of my favorite podcast hosts/ neuroscientist from Stanford Andrew Huberman both say 10-16 min is best and that longer can actually have a negative effect.
1. Radiant Skin: My complexion has become better. I don’t know how to explain it but I just feel like it’s helping. Texture seems better and it looks clearer/ brighter.
2. Post-Workout Bliss: Recovering from workouts feels like a breeze. My body was hurting so bad but between this and my turmeric bone broth lattes I feel like a night and day difference from a few weeks ago.
3. Sleep Sanctuary: Nights are more restful, and I’m waking up feeling rejuvenated and ready to conquer the day.
4. Joint Relief: If you have any achy joints, red light therapy might just become your new best friend. It certainly has been for me! I wish I would have found this light before I found perimenopause that’s for sure!
I got this one from Hooga as an intro. It’s a good size and good for my small space. My PEMF mat also has red lights. So I can lay on that and put the new panel on me as well. We can get into the benefits of the PEMF mat on a different day but that too is incredible.
