Let’s dive into a topic that’s close to my heart and essential for our journey of growth and self-love – the art of not taking things personally.
Wisdom from “The Four Agreements”
Have you ever read the powerful book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz? This book is so tiny but packed with wisdom. I remember being gifted it by one of my hair clients years ago because she told me it changed her life. One of the agreements is “Don’t take anything personally”. What a total game changing concept. Imagine a world where everyone abided by this agreement; it would be full of understanding and compassion, instead of ego and misunderstanding.
So how do you do that? How do you not make it about you when someone unfriends you in real life or online? You don’t get the job, you get ghosted after a date, you don’t get invited to something and many many more possibilities???
Here are some tips:
Pause, Reflect, Rise
Life has this funny way of throwing curveballs our way, doesn’t it? Sometimes, those unexpected comments or actions hit us right in the feels. But here’s the secret – pause for a moment, reflect on the bigger picture, and rise above the noise. A lot of times those curveballs are redirection and actually helping guide us to where we are meant to be.
It’s Not About You; It’s About Them
This one is not the easiest to remember at the moment but most of the time, when someone’s words or actions sting, it’s a reflection of their own inner world, not yours. People project their feelings, insecurities, and experiences onto others. It’s like they’re carrying a heavy backpack, and some of the weight spills onto you. Remember, you’re not the backpack holder. Let them take that backpack and hike on out of there. Trust me on that one.
Release the Need for Approval
Can we all please break free from the chains of seeking constant approval? We are all guilty from one time or another of wanting approval and acceptance. But please remember your worth is not determined by someone else’s opinion. Embrace your uniqueness, and let go of the need to please everyone. The only approval you truly need is from the beautiful face staring back at you in the mirror.
Fuel Your Inner Light
Let the haters be your motivators. Instead of letting other people’s actions discourage you, just let that shit roll off of you and continue to live your best life. Imagine each negative remark or action as a tiny raindrop falling into a vast ocean. Let it ripple away, leaving your inner light untouched.
We’re in This Together
Remember, Sparkle Squad, we’re all navigating this crazy, beautiful journey together. And everyone is doing their best at that given moment. Extend grace, love and light in all situations and just know that It’s not always about you, and that’s a good thing.
Here’s to rising above, not taking things personally, and embracing the incredible woman that you are! And don’t forget to add The four agreements to your reading list if you have not read it already. You will not be disappointed.
