I want to share with you a little story about my journey with my succulent garden, because believe it or not, it’s taught me one of the coolest lessons about life.
It will be a year in May since I first planted my succulent garden, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the transformation. When I first started, the spot was struggling to take off. I tried planting various flowers, but nothing seemed to flourish. It gets really bright in the afternoon and early evening sun and everything I tried was just fried in summer. It was frustrating, to say the least. But I refused to give up on that little area because it is the first thing I see when I walk up to my house or sit on my front porch. And I wanted it to bring me joy not frustration.
So, I decided to switch things up and give succulents a try. My mom loves them so she convinced me it was the best bet in that spot. She had a green thumb where I however rely on hope and a prayer when it comes to gardening.
At first, I think I started with 12, but over time, I kept adding more and removing ones that weren’t thriving. Out of the 12 I have 10 OG’s remaining. I added rocks and some crystals to really keep the vibes sparkly and the energy good. And at one point even had to add some ceramic blue birds to keep some pesky critters away. Blue Birds remind me of my grandma so I believe she watches over this little area and helps it take off too because she loved flowers and plants.
I gave them something I rarely have, patience. And with some time and you know what? It paid off!
Here’s where the magic happened though….. As I watched my succulent garden flourish, it hit me: this is just like life. Sometimes, things don’t work out the way we planned. We face setbacks, disappointments, and moments of doubt. But that doesn’t mean we throw in the towel. No, it means we get creative, we try something different, and most importantly, we give ourselves the time and patience to grow.
In just a year’s time, my little garden has undergone a complete transformation. Some of the girls who were not doing well would spontaneously take off and thrive and others have just steadily made progress. And isn’t that just like life? In the span of a year, we can make monumental changes, both externally and internally.
So remember this: don’t give up on yourself, even when things seem tough. Just like my succulent garden, with a little patience and perseverance, you can bloom into something truly magnificent.
