Have you tried natural deodorant but felt like you still stunk or broke out in a rash??? You are not alone.
This tends to be the story from soooooo many people, and I was no dif.
A few years ago deodorant was my first personal product that I swapped from a toxic to safer option. I had heard so many negative things about aluminum in deodorant and couldnt to continue to use the stuff I was using and feel good about it.
It ended up being a bit harder than I expected, here is why..
First of all, as gross as this sounds…I was not used to being sweaty. Natural deodorants are not antiperspirant-meaning you still can sweat!
While that bothered me at first, now I understand the importance of letting your body detox. I definitely would never use an antiperspirant ever again. Hello… get that stuff OUT!
The second thing that was problematic for me was rashes. So many deodorants irritated my skin. And I am not talking about a little redness. I’m talking red bumps and rashes like the ultimate razor burn! Some big name natural ones even made me look like I had a horrible sunburn and I even peeled! Not fun!
So was it all worth it in the name of finding one I loved? Heck yes! Let me tell ya why.
The most common chemical ingredients found in deodorant and antiperspirants are parabens, triclosan, phthalates, propylene glycol and aluminum. Research has linked these ingredients to several medical conditions including, but not limited to, types of cancer and reproductive development issues.
I used to be able to smell my deodorant “working” by 10 am everyday. The mix of the conventional deodorant with my own scent just had a certain smell. Now looking back that’s so gross to think about.
But with my favorite safer ones I just smell nothing at all or the faintest scent from the deodorant.
The most important thing with natural deodorant is just like everything else in life, don’t give up. Keep on trying.
I have used MANY that people loved that my body hated. But, I finally have found not one brand, but 2, that I LOVE!
Knowing that I do not have those toxins entering my body is the best feeling. I know in life we are exposed to so many things. Intentionally reducing that by making small little swaps like this makes all this so worth it.
Have you tried safer deodorant? What was your experience?
